Watchdog puts Telegram, LiveJournal on social networks register

MOSCOW, Oct 27 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has added messenger Telegram and global communities of bloggers LiveJournal to the register of social networks, the regulator said late on Tuesday in a statement.

“On October 26, 2021, the communications service added to the register of social networks two more Internet services with a daily audience of over 500,000 Russian users. The list now includes Telegram and LiveJournal,” the statement read.

In force since February, the law obliges social networks to uncover and block banned information.

The watchdog started compiling the register in September to control their compliance with the law and put Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Likee, YouTube, VKontakte, and Odnoklassniki on the list the same month.
